Configuration of the cable fault detection system using optical fiber current sensors with the WDM transmission technology

This system is composed of optical fiber current sensors, optical-multiplexer/demultiplexers, optical fiber transmission lines, and a detection panel.
And, the detection panel is composed of a light source, optical-multiplexer/demultiplexers, an opto-electronics conversion unit, and a fault section detection unit.
The opto-electronics conversion unit outputs the voltage signal in proportion to the current value measured by each sensor.
And at the same time, by combining the voltage signal from the three sensors, the voltage signal that corresponds to zero-phase current value is obtained.
The fault section detection unit can detect a short-circuit-fault as well as a ground-fault of an power cable because of the current differential relay for each phase current in addition to the current differential relay for the zero-phase-current.
Finally, when the fault is in the underground cable section, the fault section detection unit outputs the signal to prevent the reclosing.
