In early days, computer systems were mainly used for numerical computations. However, recently, rapid developments in these fields enable texts, images, sounds and knowledge processing. Especially, a smell processing is one of emerging topics. Under the circumstances, a smell detection system has been developed, based on neural networks, independent component analysis and genetic algorithms. This system can be utilized to classify, analyze and synthesize smells. Because the smell sensing is one of human five senses, there is a large filed of applications, for example, a fire alarm or a chemical detector. Thus, the development of smell sensor systems is promising.
