By applying an optoelectronic measurement system, consisting of LEDs, quarts optical fibers, and light-electric signal converter devices, to high voltage measurements, it became easier, safer, and more accurate to observe discharge phenomena and to measure waveforms in high potential points.

Moreover, this technology was suggested to be applied for commercial high voltage apparatus, such as triggering, monitoring, and control of thyristors in HVDC systems.
